Industrial Ventilation Systems

A production hall without an efficient ventilation system simultaneously creates a health risk for employees, a threat to product quality, and a significant energy cost for the owner. Smoke, excessive humidity, overheating during summer, and heat losses during winter are all symptoms of the same issue: the lack of a properly designed air exchange system adapted to the production process, building volume, and local climatic conditions.

NAWARA designs, manufactures, and services industrial ventilation systems as an integrated part of dust extraction installations, not as separate devices but as a complete air management system for the facility. Our solutions are tailored to the specific requirements of production halls, industrial buildings, public facilities, and office spaces. Heat recovery is a standard feature rather than a premium option.

Industrial Ventilation Is Not About Comfort – It Is a Technical and Economic Requirement

Regulatory Requirements

Occupational safety regulations specify minimum air change rates for different types of industrial premises, ranging from approximately 3 air changes per hour for warehouses to more than a dozen per hour for welding shops and paint facilities. Failure to meet these requirements may result in findings during labour inspections and, in severe cases, orders to suspend operations.

The Cost of Ventilation Without Heat Recovery

Mechanical ventilation without heat recovery is one of the largest energy expenses in industrial facilities. A hall with a volume of 5,000 m³, an air exchange rate of 6 changes per hour, an internal temperature of 18°C, and an external temperature of -10°C loses the equivalent of more than 150,000 kWh annually through ventilation. A heat recovery unit with 80% efficiency can recover approximately 120,000 kWh. At a thermal energy cost of PLN 0.35 per kWh, this represents annual savings of approximately PLN 42,000.

Humidity and Condensation as Production Problems

Excess humidity in woodworking facilities, raw material warehouses, and drying areas leads to material swelling, machine corrosion, and conditions favourable to mould growth. Proper ventilation with humidity control is therefore an element of quality management rather than merely a comfort issue.

Technical Ventilation Solutions with Heat Recovery

Air Handling Units with Heat Recovery

NAWARA air handling units are equipped with heat exchangers selected according to the specific application:

  • Crossflow plate heat exchanger efficiency up to 75%, low pressure drop, and no risk of contamination transfer between air streams.
  • Rotary heat exchanger – efficiency up to 85%, humidity recovery capability, recommended for low outdoor temperatures.
  • Glycol heat exchanger designed for applications with high dust levels or ATEX requirements where complete separation of air streams is necessary.

Supply and Exhaust Ventilation with Filtration

Supply air is filtered through G4–F7 filters, preventing dust and allergens from entering the facility. When combined with a dust extraction system, the ventilation installation creates a positive-pressure environment that protects clean areas, such as paint shops or final assembly zones, from dust migration originating in processing areas.

Automation and Energy Management

NAWARA ventilation systems can be equipped with CO₂ controllers as well as humidity and temperature sensors, enabling demand-controlled ventilation. Airflow increases only when required. In two- and three-shift operations, energy savings compared to constant-speed ventilation can reach 30–50%.

NAWARA – Ventilation Systems Integrated with Dust Extraction

Designing general ventilation without considering the extraction system often leads to airflow conflicts. The extraction system creates negative pressure, while the supply air installation cannot compensate sufficiently, resulting in reduced performance and uncontrolled airflow through leaks. NAWARA designs both systems together as a complete air balance for the entire facility. NAWARA air handling units are supplied with a 36-month warranty, and service is performed by in-house technicians with direct access to spare parts stocked in Poland. FAQ

How can the required ventilation capacity for a production hall be calculated?

The starting point is the required air exchange rate, which depends on the production process and associated heat loads, humidity levels, and contaminants. For woodworking facilities, 6–10 air changes per hour are typically applied, while welding shops generally require 10–20 air changes per hour. NAWARA performs ventilation calculations based on the hall layout, process description, and number of employees, without any preliminary cost.

Do heat recovery units operate efficiently in Polish winter conditions?

Yes, provided they are properly selected. Rotary and plate heat exchangers operate effectively at outdoor temperatures down to approximately -20°C. At lower temperatures, preheating of the incoming air is applied before the heat exchanger by means of electric or hot-water heaters. Even with preheating, this solution remains significantly more energy-efficient than operating without heat recovery.

Can a heat recovery ventilation system be integrated with an existing dust extraction installation?

Yes, although it requires an analysis of the overall air balance within the facility. NAWARA performs an audit of the existing installation and designs an integration method, most commonly by introducing compensating supply air directly into extraction zones or by adapting the existing control system.
