Sawdust, wood shavings, and wood chips are not waste. In dry condition, they represent an energy source with a calorific value of 4–5 kWh/kg. Wood processing facilities without proper biomass storage often sell this material below its actual value or even pay for its disposal. A biomass silo is infrastructure that changes the relationship between a facility and its waste stream, transforming disposal costs into an energy source or an additional revenue stream. Silos na biomasę to infrastruktura, która zmienia relację zakładu z własnym odpadem – z kosztu utylizacji w źródło energii lub przychód ze sprzedaży.
NAWARA silos and containers are designed as part of a complete system, from collection at the dust extraction installation, through storage, to feeding systems for boilers or briquetting lines.
Biomass stored without protection against precipitation and condensation quickly and irreversibly loses calorific value. Sawdust with a moisture content of 50% has approximately half the heating value of dry material. In addition, wet biomass can ferment, creating odours and microbiological hazards. A silo with a roof, sealed floor, and controlled ventilation is essential.
Sawdust and wood shavings have a relatively large volume compared to their mass. One tonne of sawdust occupies approximately 4–8 m³ depending on wood species and moisture content. Facilities without silos often store material in big bags or directly on the yard, increasing logistical complexity and contamination risks. Pneumatic transport directly from the extraction system to the silo eliminates manual handling and intermediate transfers.
Biomass with a moisture content exceeding 15% and stored in large volumes is susceptible to self-heating caused by biological processes. NAWARA designs larger silos with temperature probes and emergency ventilation systems as standard equipment.
We will select a solution tailored to the system's specifications, operating conditions, and technical requirements.
Contact UsThe CYRKON silo is a cylindrical steel structure designed for the storage of sawdust, dust, and wood chips in outdoor conditions. It is intended for installation directly downstream of a facility’s extraction system. Key design features:
NAWARA containers provide a durable solution for collecting and transporting waste materials in dust extraction systems. They are widely used in manufacturing facilities, sorting plants, and industrial yards where flexibility and mobility are important. Key features:
NAWARA containers provide not only efficiency and safety, but also flexibility, designed to meet the practical requirements of modern industrial facilities.
The CYRKON silo and NAWARA containers can be connected directly to the facility’s dust extraction system. Pneumatic transport from a separator or bag filter directly into the storage unit eliminates the need for mechanical conveyors and intermediate collection pallets. At the discharge point, a screw conveyor or vibratory feeder can be installed to feed a boiler plant or a briquetting production line. NAWARA designs and supplies complete handling systems: silo or container + transport system + discharge to the receiving installation. The customer receives one integrated solution, one project, and one service provider.
How can a biomass silo be protected against spontaneous combustion?
Maintaining biomass moisture content below 15% and ensuring adequate air circulation are essential. CYRKON silos are equipped as standard with certified ATEX explosion relief devices, a fire protection riser, and optionally advanced infrared sensors for detecting hot objects inside the storage vessel. Continuous monitoring is recommended for materials particularly susceptible to self-heating, such as beech or linden sawdust.
Can a silo be connected directly to an existing dust extraction system?
Yes, provided that the extraction installation is equipped with a separator or filter featuring a gravity or pneumatic discharge outlet. NAWARA evaluates the compatibility of the existing system and designs the connection point, often without requiring modifications to the main extraction installation.
Can silo parameters be adapted to the facility’s requirements?
The CYRKON silo is a fixed outdoor installation designed for continuous collection of sawdust and dust from pneumatic conveying systems. A NAWARA container is a flexible solution intended for dust extraction systems, offering customization and adaptation to changing operational requirements. The selection depends on weekly material volume, material characteristics, and available space.
Can silo parameters be adapted to the facility’s requirements?
Yes. Both CYRKON silos and NAWARA containers are configured individually. Dimensions, discharge systems, safety equipment, and automation options are determined during the design stage.
